CPSC Issues Warning to Stop Using Certain Amazon-Sold Faucets Due to Lead Risks

Warning Date: May 14, 2025
Product Category: Bathroom and kitchen faucets sold on Amazon.com
Hazard Identified: High levels of lead leaching into drinking water
Safety Alert ID: 25-269

Immediate Action Advised

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a safety warning urging consumers to immediately stop using a specific group of faucets sold on Amazon.com. These products, made in China, have been found to release unsafe levels of lead into drinking water—posing serious health risks, particularly to infants, young children, and pregnant women.

Health Risks from Lead Exposure

Lead-contaminated water can cause long-term developmental and neurological issues. This includes learning difficulties, decreased attention span, behavioral problems, and lower IQ levels in young children. Pregnant individuals and developing fetuses are also especially vulnerable to the harmful effects of lead exposure.

  • VESLA HOME Kitchen Faucet – Sold by VESLA HOME
  • KZH Bathroom Faucet – Sold by Yajie Sanitaryware

All listed products were manufactured in China and sold on Amazon.com, typically priced between $30 and $70. Several faucets lack branding, safety certification, or identifiable manufacturer labels.

Additionally, Chenfeng Store, although not listed above, has agreed to voluntarily recall its faucets due to similar safety concerns.

What Consumers Should Do

CPSC strongly recommends the following:

  • Stop using the listed faucets immediately.
  • Dispose of them properly.
  • If you must continue using one temporarily, let cold water run for at least 15 seconds before drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth.

Additional Recommendations

To reduce the risk of lead exposure from any faucet:

  • Choose faucets that meet NSF/ANSI Standard 61, which ensures limits on lead and other contaminants.
  • Run water for 15 seconds each morning, in the evening, or after periods of disuse.
  • Use only cold water for cooking, drinking, or preparing infant formula. Boiling does not eliminate lead.
  • Clean or replace faucet aerators regularly to clear out trapped particles.
  • Contact your water provider or local health department for water testing, or visit epa.gov/safewater for more information.
